Open and honest communication is always necessary to build something strong, solid and fruitful. Alas, many people (women especially) just give hints and hope the other will get them. It usually doesn't work.

Or, they think something is just obvious and a given, so the other will get there in time. But unless the couple has a clear and outspoken agreement on something, one can never be sure if that goal is shared or not.

Miscommunication or lack of clear communication is a surefire recipe for disappointment.
