Although it seems to me the wife in this situation has "emotionally gone away for good" long ago, I applaud the positivity of the Dr. and her advice given to the husband.

After all, only after you have done everything you could, you can tell yourself "Enough is enough, there's no way out, it's better ending this marriage" without doubt or regret.

I have observed that, on average, once a woman leaves a relationship (be it just emotionally or formally), she is seldom willing to go back; while many men, given the right circumstances, are more willing to try again.
