That's true: many men risk their life for helping others, even strangers, while most women would risk theirs only for their kids.
And yet, here we have another strong inequality: women expect their partners to risk their life for them; but they're not willing to do the same. Again, this makes evolutionary sense, but it has nothing to do with equality.
It makes me think that often women, even those theoretically pursuing equality, expect a "special treatment" for themselves (you know, "Women and children first", and so on), but they are not willing to give the same to the opposite gender. IMO, even feminism seems often operating from this mindset.
