They are displayed everywhere in all the West. Even in my still-quite-Catholic Italy.

Despite that, though, women dress differently from country to country, as you noticed. So I don't think what media shows makes a big difference. To me, it seems mostly a matter of local culture and habits.

Here in Italy, most women don't dress provocatively, but they usually wear high stilettos that are "killing" them. Why? Maybe because here is normal, and most people want to feel normal.
