Her experiment reminds me of Norah Vincent (don't know if she was mentioned in the article, not a subscriber): Lesbian feminist writer Norah Vincent wanted to experiment on what it would be like to be a man. At the end of that 18 months she had to check herself in for psychological treatment due to the amount of depression she underwent during the period, and stated that she never felt so glad for being a woman.

She published a book about it: "Self-made man" (2006)

She said there were a lot of hardships and trials that men underwent that women were unable to observe from the outside, and that she only understood them (and found them extremely challenging) once she tried living like a man.

After the experiment she realized that being female was a privilege.
