Humans are social animals. We aren't designed to live on our own, relying just on our own (as a matter of fact, practically nobody did until some decades ago). We need a tribe or, at least, a network of people to support each other.

Perhaps you have mistaken "autonomy" (being a self-reliant adult) with "independence" (not needing anyone). :-)

Truth is, everybody needs other people. Its called interdependence.
