Kudos for this really thoughtful, sensitive and reasonable answer on a very delicate and difficult subject. Sometimes I see the question in your title, and I think "Wow! I would not know how to handle such a subject...", and then I'm surprised at how able you are to delve into it. :-)

Besides, kudos for not automatically condemn the dad for his marital behavior, and giving him the benefit of the doubt about his dad behavior. Once again you confirm of being able to evaluate situations in a balanced way, without gender prejudices.
