Regarding the "Be a man" and "good man"...
All my life, in those situations I heard that men should do "the right thing". Then one day I wondered: "Right for whom?".
- Is it right for the baby? Of course.
- Is it right for the woman? Sure, raising a child alone is hard.
- Is it right for society? Yes, because single-parent families are often a burden on society.
- But... is it right for the man? Nobody ever asks this question. Nobody cares about the man. The others have rights; the man has duties.
If you think about it, this double standard is disgusting. Society sees men just as workhorses.
When someone asks a man to do "the right thing", they're actually asking that man to forget about himself and sacrifice his life to everybody's else benefit.
I will not.
