Well, yes and no.
I think social media act as a "distorting mirror": it reflects back at us human nature, but in a distorted or exaggerated way.
After all, most people do not say in your face what they really think; but on the Net they feel free to do just that.

So no, social media is not like reality. But, at the same time, it shows us real parts of us we'd rather ignore. Rejecting that "uncomfortable mirror" is just denial.
E.g. the many "Man haters" and rabid feminists here on Medium are very real; they might be a minority, perhaps, but they walk in the world among us.
